Southwest Churchyard Stahnsdorf

Southwest Churchyard Stahnsdorf

The Southwest Churchyard Stahnsdorf, opened in 1909, was laid out by the master gardener Louis Meyer on the model of the grounds by Peter Joseph Lenné.

The cemetery lost its importance with the division of Germany and the building of the Wall in 1961. Over time, the gravestones fell into disrepair and the grounds became visibly overgrown.

Efforts are now being made to preserve them and to make their basic structure visible again.

Important personalities from politics, culture, science and business were buried here.
